We took the bullet train from Tianjin to Beijing. Then we had to figure out how to get from the train station and into a taxi that would take us in a reasonable amount of time to our hotel. We discovered that there was a huge waiting line for the taxis, but it wasn’t bad because the taxis kept coming constantly and the line moved quickly.

We went with Zhiru, who is a close friend of my sister-in-law Tinglan, to the Summer Palace which is northwest of Beijing. Zhiru brought her young daughter and daughter’s friend. We walked nearly all the way around the lake and then went to dinner with her husband at a Mongolian restaurant nearby. 
By the time we left Beijing, I had gotten quite used to the place and also to our little neighborhood near the Forbidden City. I look forward to being able to return for another visit someday!
