Zhuhai

We stayed at Bob and Jene’s home in Zhuhai for 4 nights. It was the perfect place to begin familiarizing ourselves with a Chinese neighborhood, with its sights, sounds, and smells. Fruits

One evening, I went with Jene to the English conversation class she teaches at a school called the Global Language Village and Kelsey went with Bob to the music studio where he teaches piano to a young Chinese girl, Niko.

The next night we were at home in conversation with some of Jene’s friends, a group of Chinese women — a delightful group to get to know. The next day we went to a lovely restaurant for “dim sum” brunch with a few friends and spent some time walking around an island park where the Zhuhai Opera House is being built. It’s going to be an impressive and unusual looking building, situated next to the bay.

Soon it was time to leave Zhuhai and fly to Tianjin with Jene, where we would visit with Gerda, Luis, and Helen and talk with Luis about his upcoming journey to Boston where he would be entering MIT as a freshman student.

Here are someĀ photos of Zhuhai.
